Q1 Updates, IRA Contribution Highlights & Celebrating Rita’s Retirement
I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to share a quick update on the markets, 2025 and 2026 IRA contributions, and information about a beloved team member's retirement.
Q1 2026 has been a bit of a balancing act. Oil prices went above $100 because of tension between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. At the same time, AI remains a bright spot, helping businesses grow even as other parts of the economy slow.
Year-to-Date Stock Index Performance
- The S&P 500 is down 3.83%
- The Nasdaq 100 has fallen 5.93%
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 3.62%
Inflation and interest rate policy continue to remain front and center, with the Federal Reserve still targeting 2% inflation. The Fed recently decided to hold rates, leaving the target range at 3.5% to 3.75%. There are some areas of concern, including high company valuations and ongoing global tensions that can impact oil prices.
Short-term market swings are a normal part of investing, even as markets remain near historically high levels and economic growth shows signs of moderating rather than contracting. Overall, the outlook remains positive, but with a bit more balance and caution than in recent years.
IRA Contributions
Traditional and Roth IRA contribution limits increased in 2026 to $7,500. A 50 and Over Catch-up has increased to $1,100, bringing your total to $8,600 for the year. You can max out your $7,500 in either type of account or you can split them between accounts, but you cannot contribute more than the annual limit.
It's not too late to contribute to your IRA for 2025. You have until the federal tax deadline (Wednesday, April 15th) to make contributions for the previous tax year. The limits for 2025 IRAs are:
- $7,000 if you're under 50
- $8,000 if you're 50 or older
Keep in mind: The IRS limits apply across all your IRAs combined (Traditional and Roth), and your income level and access to a workplace plan may affect whether your contributions are tax-deductible.

JEN'S CORNER
The time has come for Rita to retire. After 10 1/2 years with Capital Advisors, she is ready to boot, scoot, and boogie into her next chapter! Rita has made a lasting impact on me, our team, and our clients, and I want to acknowledge what she has meant to our firm.

Beyond her client-facing responsibilities, she has served as a trusted counselor, an enthusiastic supporter, and a patient sounding board. Both literally and figuratively, she has been the team's mother: compassionate, patient, insightful, and nurturing to clients and team members alike. She has kept perspective and knew when to push us and when to comfort. She was pivotal in helping build our "A-Team" and is now ready to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. We love her dearly and will miss her! May her next chapter be as rich, joyful, and perfectly tuned as her taste in music. Party starts at 8 pm! We hope to see you there.
